Training for Current Law Enforcement Officers

The  mandatory in-service program requires all municipal police officers to complete 12 hours of training, exclusive of administrative and examination time. All four MPOETC classes are mandated  in 2023 (Legal Updates, Tactical Communications, Investigations and Officer Wellness.

Westmoreland provides the instruction and the examinations and records the trainings as completed in the MPOETC officer training records. 

2025 Schedule

The 2025 schedule for Westmoreland and Fayette counties is now available. 

Training Locations - Westmoreland and Fayette

Classes are scheduled in  Ligonier,  Vandergrift, North Huntingdon, New Kensington, Connellsville, Smithton and Youngwood. Classes may be scheduled at additional locations provided there are a minimum of 12 officers per class.

Registration and Payment

To register for the mandatory in-service classes, an email must be sent to prattmelFREEWESTMORELAND.  You will receive a confirmation email that you are registered for classes.  DO NOT ATTEMPT TO REGISTER BY PHONE OR FAX. 

You may register for updates after December 5, 2023

Be prepared to provide via email only,  the officer's name, address (home or department), date of birth, email address, and class location and date of desired class(es). 

  • Registrations may be made by the individual police officers.
  • Municipal departments will be paid for by MPOETC.
  • Non-municipal law enforcement agencies will be charged $100.00 by Westmoreland County Community College.

Non-municipal Law Enforcement Agencies

Westmoreland has a list of non-municipal departments that are permitted to directly register with us for MIST 180 training. Contact Melissa Pratt at 724-925-4112 or prattmelFREEWESTMORELAND to confirm your department is pre-approved by MPOETC to attend MIST 180 courses.

If your department is not on the list, you need to contact Chris Clark, Director of Certification and Administration, at 717-346-4086 for approval to attend MIST 180 training. Once your department is approved by MPOETC to attend MIST 180 training, contact Westmoreland telephone registration at 1-800-262-2103, ext. 4204 or 724-925-4204 to register. The agency identified at registration will be invoiced for the training.
