Training for Current Law Enforcement Officers

The  mandatory in-service program requires all municipal police officers to complete 12 hours of training, exclusive of administrative and examination time. All four MPOETC classes are mandated  in 2022 (Legal Updates, Undersatanding Bias, Use of Force and Control Tactics).

Westmoreland provides the instruction and the examinations and records the trainings as completed in the MPOETC officer training records. 

2022 Schedule

The 2022 schedule for Westmoreland and Fayette counties is now available. 

The 2022 schedule for Johnstown and Somerset areas is now available.

Training Locations - Westmoreland and Fayette

Classes are scheduled in  Ligonier,  Vandergrift, North Huntingdon, New Kensington, Connellsville, Smithton and Youngwood. Classes may be scheduled at additional locations provided there are a minimum of 14 officers per class.

Training Locations - Johnstown and Somerset Areas

Classes are scheduled at Richaland P.D., Somerset Borough, West Hills Regional, Upper Yoder, Cambria County Sheriff's, Northern Cambria, and St. Francis University.

Registration and Payment

To register for the mandatory in-service classes, call telephone registration at 1-800-262-2103, extension 4204 or 724-925-4204. Be prepared to provide the officer’s name, contact information (home address, etc.), course code of the desired class(es) and the name of the police department or school for SRO officers.

  • Registrations may be made by the individual police officers.
  • The cost to attend the 2022 MPOETC-sponsored classes is $100 per officer.   Municipal departments will be paid for by MPOETC.
  • Non-municipal law enforcement agencies will be charged $100.00 by Westmoreland County Community College.

Non-municipal Law Enforcement Agencies

Westmoreland has a list of non-municipal departments that are permitted to directly register with us for MIST 180 training. Contact Melissa Pratt at 724-925-4112 or prattmel@westmoreland.edu to confirm your department is pre-approved by MPOETC to attend MIST 180 courses.

If your department is not on the list, you need to contact Chris Clark, Director of Certification and Administration, at 717-346-4086 for approval to attend MIST 180 training. Once your department is approved by MPOETC to attend MIST 180 training, contact Westmoreland telephone registration at 1-800-262-2103, ext. 4204 or 724-925-4204 to register. The agency identified at registration will be invoiced for the training.
