Weather Advisory Information for Students, Staff and Community

Westmoreland County Community College (Westmoreland) serves Westmoreland, Indiana and Fayette Counties. The college also has education centers in Latrobe, Mt. Pleasant, Murrysville and New Kensington. There is an education center in Indiana and Fayette Counties and the Public Safety Training Center is located in Smithton. All location details can be found HERE.

Westmoreland will make every effort to hold classes and be open for students during inclement weather. Employees are expected to report for work and perform their duties as assigned. Students are expected to attend class and meet all other commitments they have made to their fellow students or the college.

In the event of a weather event or a campus emergency, Westmoreland may need to alter the schedule for students, staff and events scheduled on campus or at an educational center. To communicate this change, the college uses the RAVE Mobile Safety system to create alerts. The system allows for push notifications to email and mobile phones. You must be signed up for the ALERTS.

How to sign up – Use this link. You must be a currently enrolled student or an employee of the college to sign up for the RAVE alerts.  Adjunct faculty can sign up during their teaching semesters.

Other notification platforms – In addition to the RAVE alerts, the college will:

  •   Post a notification on the website.
  •   Post a notification to Facebook
  •   Post a notification to Instagram

The best way to see announcements on social media is to follow us on Facebook and Instagram.

We are unable to use the TV Station reporting tools as they do not provide for custom messaging.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Q: When will you announce a remote teaching day or a delay?

A: Our goal is to try to always notify the students and staff before 6 a.m. if possible. Weather conditions are unpredictable but we will try our very best to update everyone as early as possible.

Q: If there is a late start, when will classes resume?

A: Our goal is to do our best to be consistent. If there is a delay, we will attempt to have a NOON opening time. This may not always be possible, so please be sure to watch for a RAVE Emergency Alert via your email or text. All late starts will include both credit and non-credit students.

Q: If the college determines it must close early, what will happen?

A: If the college must close a campus, education center, or all locations, the RAVE Emergency Alert system will make the announcement. All closures will include both credit and non-credit students.
