From Military Service to Medical Imaging: Sean Springob Finds a New Path at Westmoreland

October 15, 2026

For Sean Springob of Greensburg, choosing Westmoreland County Community College was about more than starting a new career. It was about finding a college that offered the academic opportunities, personal support and commitment to military and veteran students he was looking for, and one that had already become an important part of his family’s story.

Originally from La Feria, Texas and a 1996 graduate of La Feria High School, Springob is pursuing Health Sciences at Westmoreland with the goal of becoming a nuclear medicine technologist.

His interest in medical imaging has roots in his military career as a Marine. While serving, Springob performed radiography operations, taking X-rays of aircraft. When he decided to transition away from the aviation and power industries, he saw a connection between his previous experience and the foundational principles used in medical imaging.

“Once I’ve completed all my schooling and certification testing, I see myself working in a hospital and enjoying a better quality of life,” Springob said.

Springob’s connection to Westmoreland extends well beyond his own education.

His middle son graduated from Westmoreland’s nursing program in 2022. In May 2026, his wife and older son also graduated from the nursing program, alongside his son’s fiancée. His daughter-in-law graduated from the college’s medical assistant program.

With so many members of the family choosing Westmoreland, Springob had already seen firsthand the college’s commitment to its students. But as he began his own educational journey, another aspect of that support became especially meaningful.

When Springob first registered for classes, he was unaware of the military and veteran support available at Westmoreland. Having retired from the military more than 10 years earlier, he had not accessed or used his military education benefits.

That changed at Westmoreland.

“I would share my story with other military about Westmoreland and the overwhelming support I’ve received from the college,” he said. " I would also highlight how invaluable it is to have a dedicated Military & Veteran Advisor and Certifying Official who truly cares and consistently does an outstanding job.”

For Springob, that personal attention reflects the kind of environment he wanted when choosing a college.

“My military experience has had a huge influence on what I was looking for in the college’s academics,” he said.

After watching several members of his family succeed at Westmoreland and now experiencing that support himself, Springob knows he made the right choice.

“I chose Westmoreland because of the incredible support I’ve received, and the outstanding dedication shown to my family and to military and veteran students.”
