From Westmoreland to Slippery Rock: A Smooth Transfer to Nursing Success

March 12, 2025

By enrolling in Westmoreland County Community College’s College in the High School program while attending Franklin Regional High School, Lilly Llewellyn of Murrysville found a pathway to making her dream of becoming a nurse a reality.

“I chose Westmoreland because I would be able to become a nurse in just two years rather than four,” Llewellyn said. “Plus, all of my College in the High School credits transferred which saved me money in tuition.”

During her time at Westmoreland, Llewellyn said that she received hands-on experience in the nursing field and her professors provided her with a support system that “helped push you to become the best nurse by the end of the program.”

Llewellyn was awarded the college’s President’s Scholarship for graduating in the top 10 percent of her class and serves as a student ambassador.

She said that the admissions team in charge of student ambassadors was a huge help by offering her different experiences that she may not have otherwise pursued such as greeting guests at Open Houses and other events.

“I’ll graduate from Westmoreland in the spring of 2026 and transfer to Slippery Rock in the fall of 2026,” she said. “And my plan is to graduate from Slippery Rock in December of 2027.”

“My Transfer Counselor Maria Loffredo has been great,” Llewellyn said. “She’s made it so easy to access what I need to have completed in order to have a smooth transfer to Slippery Rock.”

“Lilly is an exemplary student and I could not be more proud of her hard work and dedication to her education,” said Loffredo. “Westmoreland students have a large variety of high quality transfer opportunities and seamless pathways to further their education to obtain bachelor’s degrees and beyond.”

Loffredo also said that Slippery Rock has been a long-standing partner with Westmoreland and that she’s very excited for Lilly to continue her education at SRU.

She plans to pursue a bachelor of science degree in nursing at Slippery Rock University and has the long-range goal of obtaining a doctorate of nursing.

“Starting at Westmoreland to pursue a four-year degree is a great option that I would recommend to anyone,” she concluded.
