Brad Floom’s story is one of service, growth, and the pursuit of meaningful connections. Originally from Ohio, Brad relocated to Pennsylvania in search of new career opportunities. He quickly found a sense of purpose by joining the local fire department, where he not only gave back to his community but also built strong bonds with those around him. Helping others during critical moments became a guiding force in his life.

Today, Brad is working toward his firefighter certifications at Westmoreland County Community College’s Public Safety Training Center (PSTC). At the same time, he’s pursuing a Master’s Degree in Business Management and Data Analytics through Walsh University in North Canton, Ohio. This dual path reflects his unique combination of analytical thinking, leadership, and a deep desire to serve others.

Brad chose Westmoreland after being impressed by the PSTC, which reminded him of similar facilities back home. Its reputation for hands-on, high-quality training in emergency response and public safety made it the perfect fit. “The training at the PSTC fosters practical expertise that is both meaningful and transferable,” Brad said. He values the program’s focus on problem-solving, teamwork, and leadership, which aligns seamlessly with his goals of protecting lives and property while contributing to his community.

Brad has been especially inspired by the expertise and dedication of his instructors. Their real-world experience brings a sense of relevance and engagement to the classroom, and the hands-on training ensures students are prepared for the realities of public safety work. Reflecting on his time at Westmoreland, Brad encourages other students to be active participants in their education. “Put into class what you want to get out of it,” he advises, emphasizing the importance of making the most of every learning opportunity.

One of the highlights of Brad’s journey has been collaborating with classmates from a variety of backgrounds. Hearing their experiences and learning to communicate effectively in different scenarios has broadened his perspective and strengthened his ability to work as part of a team under pressure.

Brad’s decision to pursue a career in public safety is deeply rooted in his passion for protecting health, life, and property. With a background in analytical thinking and leadership, he sees firefighting as an opportunity to develop technical skills while making a meaningful impact in his community.

Looking to the future, Brad hopes to advance in his career and deepen his involvement in the community. By combining his education and training, he’s building a foundation to tackle complex challenges and succeed in his endeavors. For Brad, Westmoreland County Community College has been an invaluable part of this journey, equipping him with the tools and experiences he needs to thrive.
