Westmoreland County Community College Culinary Students Win Regional Knowledge Bowl
February 28, 2018 Youngwood, Pa.Westmoreland County Community College culinary arts students earned top awards at the American Culinary Federation Northeast Regional Conference held February 25-27 in Charlotte, North Carolina.
A team of Westmoreland culinary students won the Northeast Region Baron H. Galand Culinary Knowledge Bowl that tested their knowledge of nutrition, baking, culinary math, safety and sanitation and the arts of classical and modern cooking. The students compete in a “Jeopardy”-style competition to win the 2018 Regional Gold Medal. Securing the regional conference title qualifies the team to compete at the American Culinary Federation (ACF) national convention, which will be held this July in New Orleans.
“We are so proud of the accomplishments of our students. They worked really hard and it paid off for them,” said Cindy Komarinski, program director, culinary arts.
Comprising the team are: Amanda Shriner, Erin Bertuzzi and Craig Stahl.
“Our School of Culinary Arts and Hospitality continues to shine. We are blessed with very talented, nationally recognized chefs who lead our program,” said Dr. Tuesday Stanley, Westmoreland president.
