Indiana County Nursing Students Restart Chapter of Organization for Future Health Professionals

October 22, 2019 Indiana, Pa.

Health professions students at Westmoreland County Community College now have the opportunity to join HOSA-Future Health Professionals, an international career and technical student organization endorsed by the U.S. Department of Education.

In 1979, Westmoreland was a founding member of Penn HOSA, a charted state association of Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA), which became HOSA: Future Health Professionals in 2014.

The college has restarted a chapter, led by nursing students at Westmoreland-Indiana County.

The mission of HOSA is to empower HOSA-Future Health Professionals to become leaders in the global health community through education, collaboration and experience. HOSA emphasizes academic excellence, skills training and the need for quality, compassionate healthcare.

Members can complete a national service project or select their own community project, take part in competitive events and meet college and career professionals at annual state and international conferences. Members can also apply for scholarships.

The Westmoreland County Community College chapter is led by Sarah Milliron, president; Jennifer Faight, vice president; Josie Basha, secretary; Lindsay Broughton, treasurer; and Ashley Lavender, reporter.

Health professions students who are interested in joining should contact a member of the leadership team by calling 724-357-1404 or emailing Sue Keppler, chapter advisor, at kepplersFREEWESTMORELAND.
