Business Alumna Thrives in Career at Westmoreland Transit
February 27, 2018 Youngwood, Pa.Summer Aston of Greensburg graduated in 2016 with a degree in business/marketing from Westmoreland County Community College. She is currently the Community Outreach Coordinator at Westmoreland Transit.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: I am responsible for finding and attending outreach opportunities to educate and explain the different services WCTA offers. I am also responsible for creating marketing materials and website updates, as well as assisting with advertising efforts. My favorite part of my job is getting to meet new people and learn about different areas and agencies in Westmoreland County.
Q: What was the hiring process?
A: I worked at my internship while taking my last set of classes at Westmoreland. Once I fulfilled my internship hours and graduated, I was asked to stay on board at WCTA. I started working full time in June and have been with them almost 2 years.
Q: How did your studies at Westmoreland prepare you for work in the real world?
A: My business classes gave me a great foundation of knowledge for work in the real world.
Q: What was your favorite part of being a student at Westmoreland?
A: I enjoyed my time at Westmoreland because it allowed me to continue working while taking classes. I was able to explore different interests, which helped me figure out what I wanted to do. Dr. Saul’s classes were my favorite!
Q: Would you recommend Westmoreland to potential students/families and why?
A: I would recommend Westmoreland to potential students. It’s a great place to explore career interests and create class schedules that coordinate with work or other life responsibilities.
