Greater Latrobe Graduate Gets Head Start Through College in High School Program

September 3, 2025

Brianna Hoffer, a 2025 graduate of Greater Latrobe High School, walked across the stage in May with more than a diploma. She also earned college credits through Westmoreland County Community College’s (Westmoreland) College in High School program, giving her an early advantage as she prepares for a career in radiology or nuclear medicine technology.

The College in High School program (also known as dual enrollment), a partnership between Greater Latrobe and Westmoreland, allows students to complete college-level courses while still in high school. For Hoffer, the opportunity was both practical and inspiring.

“I first learned about Greater Latrobe’s dual enrollment opportunities when a representative from Westmoreland visited one of my classes,” she said. “What really interested me was the chance to earn college credits while still in high school. It seemed like a smart way to challenge myself academically and potentially save time and money in the future.”

Hoffer cited affordability, flexible course options and alignment with her career goals as key reasons for choosing Westmoreland. She said the program helped her adjust to a more independent style of learning and gave her confidence moving forward.

“My experience with the program has been incredibly positive,” she said. “It gave me a head start on college and helped me adapt to a more self-directed way of learning. The flexibility and support I received made it manageable and meaningful.”

Hoffer also credited her high school teachers for helping her succeed. “They didn’t just teach the material—they helped me build study habits like time management, note-taking and critical thinking,” she said.

As she looks ahead to her college studies, Hoffer sees her decision to participate in dual enrollment as an investment in her future.

“Earning college credits in high school gave me a real advantage,” she said. “It’s a smart step for any student who wants to get ahead and take control of their educational path.”
