MADE @ Westmoreland Certification Classes

Certification classes are equipment training, certification and skillset based. Whether you attend a class just for fun/learn something new or are taking it specifically to get certified to use the equipment, you will receive the certification for that piece of equipment/studio.

 

Woodshop

This hands-on, two-hour certification class introduces students to the safe and confident use of our professional woodshop. Participants will receive guided instruction on operating large woodworking equipment, power tools, and essential hand tools, with a strong emphasis on safety, best practices, and proper technique. Featuring industry-trusted equipment from Grizzly, SawStop, and DeWalt, this course is required for independent access to the woodshop and empowers makers of all skill levels to turn ideas into high-quality, shop-ready projects with confidence.

2D Design (Illustrator)

This two-hour introductory class provides a practical, hands-on overview of Adobe Illustrator with a focus on designing for digital fabrication. Students will learn the fundamentals of vector-based design and how to properly prepare files for CNC machines such as laser cutters, CNC routers, vinyl printers, and more. Ideal for beginners and makers looking to bridge design and fabrication, this class builds the essential skills needed to confidently turn digital designs into clean, machine-ready outputs. 

This course is a prerequisite for the following certification classes: Laser Cutter, CNC Router, Vinyl Printer/Cutters, and Xtool Apparel Printer.

Laser Cutter (CO2)

This two-hour certification class teaches students how to confidently and safely use the makerspace’s Epilog (Pro 24) C02 60Watt Laser Cutter. Participants will learn how to properly prepare 2D and CAD files for laser cutting and engraving, along with machine setup, material considerations, and best practices for clean, precise results. With a strong emphasis on safety and hands-on operation, this class equips makers with the skills needed to independently produce everything from prototypes and signage to custom products and detailed engravings.

Prerequisite: 2D Design with Adobe Illustrator Certification Class.

Laser Engraver (MOPA/Diode)

This hands-on class covers proper job seThis enhanced two-hour certification dives deep into the capabilities of the xTool F2 Ultra, a professional-grade dual-laser system that combines a powerful 60 W MOPA fiber laser with a 40 W diode laser in one compact, enclosed unit—far beyond the performance of typical desktop CO₂ lasers. 3D Design (TinkerCAD) + 3D Printing

This three-hour bundled certification class introduces students to the complete 3D-printing workflow—from digital design to finished part. Participants will learn the basics of 3D modeling using Tinkercad, focusing on creating clean, printable designs, then move into hands-on instruction with the newest cutting edge Bambu Lab 3D printers. The class covers slicing fundamentals, material selection, printer setup, safe operation, and post-processing basics, empowering makers to confidently design, print, and iterate functional parts, prototypes, and creative projects using industry-leading desktop 3D printing technology.

DTF Apparel Printer

This 2.5-hour certification class introduces students to the complete direct-to-film (DTF) apparel printing workflow using the makerspace’s all-in-one xTool DTF Apparel Printer. Participants will learn how to prepare artwork, print and cure DTF transfers, and properly apply graphics to garments using heat-press techniques. With hands-on instruction and a focus on safe operation, quality control, and production efficiency, this class empowers makers to confidently create professional-grade custom apparel, merch, and small-batch clothing projects in-house.

Prerequisite: 2D Design with Adobe Illustrator Certification Class.

Vinyl Printing/Cutter (Rolan VG-540)

This two-hour certification class introduces students to professional large-format printing and cutting using the makerspace’s Roland TrueVIS VG3-540 (54”) Vinyl Printer/Cutter. Participants will learn how to prepare files, load materials, manage ink and cutting settings, and safely operate the machine to produce high-quality printed and cut graphics. The class highlights a wide range of applications—including decals, stickers, signage, banners, window graphics, wall graphics, labels, and custom branding materials—empowering makers to confidently create durable, commercial-quality vinyl products for personal projects, businesses, and events.

Prerequisite: 2D Design with Adobe Illustrator Certification Class.

Metalshop & Laser Welding

This 2.5-hour certification class introduces students to safe and effective operation of the makerspace’s metalshop, covering essential power tools such as angle grinders alongside common metalworking hand tools. Participants will also receive hands-on training and certification on the makerspace’s cutting-edge xTool Laser Welder, learning proper setup, safety procedures, and practical applications. In addition to precision laser welding, the system’s capabilities for rust removal and metal cutting are demonstrated, empowering makers to confidently repair, fabricate, and finish metal projects using both traditional and advanced fabrication technologies.

Sheet Metal Laser CNC

Dive into advanced metal fabrication with the xTool MetalFab Laser Welder and CNC Cutter, one of the most exciting metalworking machines available for makerspaces. The MetalFab combines precision fiber-laser CNC cutting with intelligent automation features normally found only on industrial systems, letting you cut metals like stainless steel, aluminum, brass, carbon steel, and more with millimeter-perfect edges.. Its smart dual-camera system and AI-assisted workflows make nesting, alignment, and part placement easier and more efficient, reducing waste and setup time for complex projects.

In this hands-on, two-hour certification class, you’ll learn how to prepare and import your designs, set optimal cut parameters, load and secure sheet stock, and safely operate the MetalFab CNC laser to produce clean, professional-quality metal parts. You’ll become familiar with machine controls, material handling best practices, and tips for achieving repeatable, accurate results on projects like brackets, enclosures, custom signage, artistic panels, and functional metal components.

Prerequisite: Metalshop & Laser Welding Certification Class.

CNC Router (Wood, Acrylic)

This in-depth, 4.5-hour certification class provides hands-on training with the makerspace’s professional 4’×4’ Forest Scientific HS-Series CNC Router, equipped with an 8-head automatic tool changer for efficient, multi-step machining, cutting and engraving. Students will learn how to safely set up, operate, and monitor the CNC router while cutting wood, MDF, foam, and acrylic substrates. The class also includes an introduction to VCarve software, covering basic toolpath creation, bit selection, and job setup so participants can confidently design and run their own CNC projects. By the end of the session, makers will be prepared to produce everything from signs and furniture components to custom panels and precision-cut parts using a professional CNC workflow.

Prerequisite: 2D Design with Adobe Illustrator Certification Class & Woodshop Certification Class.
