Through the federal Work-Study program, you may be able to gain both valuable employment experience and funds to help meet your educational expenses. Work-Study is not mandatory, but it is a good opportunity to earn an income while earning your degree. Many of the jobs found through the work-study program will be at the Westmoreland campus, the Westmoreland centers or through Community Service.
How Work-Study Works
- Must complete FAFSA
- Work-Study is based on Financial Need
- Once your eligibility is determined, you will be able to view the amount that you are eligible to earn on the MyWestmoreland Portal which will be included in your award letter.
- Must be taking at least 6 credits and maintain a GPA of 2.0 or better and meet SAP guidelines.
- Funds are paid directly to the student in the form of a bi-weekly paycheck

The hourly wage for on-campus Work-Study at Westmoreland County Community College is $8.50 per hour. Students may work up to 15 hours per week during the academic year and up to 20 hours per week during the summer, depending on funding available.
Community Service Work-Study
You can make a difference in your community while earning money for your studies. Students eligible for Federal Work-Study can participate in the Community Service as well. Students who participate in these programs perform important work as reading and math tutors. The minimum hourly wage for Community Service Work-Study at Westmoreland Community College is $8.50 per hour
