Westmoreland County Community College names Melinda S. Rossell 2018 Distinguished Alumnus

Rossell Distinguished AlumYOUNGWOOD, PA – Westmoreland County Community College named Dr. Melinda S. Rossell of Fayette City as the 2018 Distinguished Alumnus at the 47th commencement ceremony held May 4 at the Youngwood campus.

Rossell graduated from Westmoreland in 2005 with an associate degree in nursing. Continuing her pursuit of higher education, she also earned a bachelor of science degree in nursing from Slippery Rock University, a master of science degree in nursing with specialization in nursing education from Walden University, and doctor of nursing practice from Carlow University.

Upon receiving the award, Rossell told the audience that her grandfather told her that education would be her key to the world.

“Through all my educational and professional endeavors, I credit Westmoreland in providing me with an incredible foundation,” she said.

She is no stranger to honors and awards having received the Carlow University School of Nursing Doctoral Research Podium Presentation Award and holding memberships with Tau Sigma National Honor Society, The Golden Key National Honor Society and Sigma Theta Tau International. In addition, she received numerous scholarships to further her education among them being the Frank B. Fuhrer Scholarship, Mon Valley Nursing Scholarship and the Westmoreland County Community College Trustees Meritorious Scholarship.

Prior to joining Westmoreland as a full-time faculty member, Rossell worked as a registered nurse specializing in pediatrics, oncology and medical surgical at several hospitals.

Rossell dedicates her time to the community by volunteering for outreach projects such as the Welcome Home Shelter in Greensburg, the Washington Township Fire Hall Christmas Outreach Program and the Refueled program at the Christian Center, Belle Vernon. She also frequently presents healthcare education programs to area support groups.

“We are proud to recognize Melinda as our 2018 Distinguished Alumnus and to count her as one of our valued faculty members who has been sharing her expertise with Westmoreland students since 2010,” Stanley said.
