Program of the Month: Human Services/Social Work
Date Published: January 01, 2018
The Human Services/Social Work program at Westmoreland County Community College provides students with general skills to enter the workforce and/or transfer to a bachelor’s degree program at a four-year institution.
The program, which leads to the associate of applied science degree, includes classroom instruction, networking with agency workers and learning about available programs.
Students have the opportunity to spend one semester in an agency, where the skills and knowledge acquired in the classroom are applied. Students also earn general education credits that are transferable to a bachelor’s degree program.
Graduates of the Human Services/Social Work program at Westmoreland work as entry-level case aides or caseworkers, resident counselors in youth and adult programs and other positions in the fields of child welfare, counseling, healthcare and more.
Most of the program may be completed online. Nine of the required 60 credits must be completed in person. Click here for degree requirements.
