YOUNGWOOD, PA – “The Chefs’ Marketplace,” held by Westmoreland College’s Educational Foundation, attracted 140 guests for its fundraising fete Sunday, November 5 at the college in Youngwood.
Students and faculty in the college’s School of Culinary Arts and Hospitality Programs prepared and served the gourmet hors d’oeuvres and meal that featured exciting and innovative items including made-from-scratch fruit spreads, pickles, sauces and baked goods that were available for purchase.
The evening also included a Silent and Chance Auctions to add to the event proceeds to support scholarships for culinary arts and hospitality students.
The students and guests had the opportunity to witness the induction of a successful Westmoreland alumnus into the college’s Culinary Arts and Hospitality Hall of Fame: Andrew Parfitt, South Beach executive chef for the Pelican Bay Foundation in Naples, Florida.
Parfitt began his professional culinary career working at the fine Italian restaurant La Tavola in New Stanton. From there, he trained at J Corks in Greensburg and Out of the Fire Café in Donegal. In 2014, he moved to Florida to start a new culinary chapter in his life and began learning the food cultures and current trends in the area as the executive sous chef at the Landings Yacht, Golf, & Tennis Club in Fort Myers, Florida.
Parfitt earned an associate of applied science degree in culinary arts from Westmoreland County Community College where he completed the apprenticeship option with the American Culinary Federation becoming a certified sous chef. He also holds a bachelor of arts degree from Le Cordon Bleu Schools North America in culinary management. He is currently in the process of completing his chef de cuisine certification with the American Culinary Federation and plans to continue learning something new every day.
