Grant to help enhance Westmoreland's Welding program

Date Published: September 06, 2017

Westmoreland County Community College will enhance its welding program through a $20,000 grant received from the Arconic Foundation last week.

The grant will facilitate the implementation of a new course, Welding Metalurgy II and will also be used to purchase metallurgy equipment used for making test samples and recruiting students into the welding program.

The grant will help to ensure that the college’s resources are up-to-date, reflect industry standards and are complete as the welding program continues to grow.

Westmoreland's Welding Engineering Technology AAS program is designed to prepare students for entry-level positions in welding, fabrication, welding engineering, fabrication design and manufacturing.

Current national trends indicate that employers need welders who are not only skilled with their hands, but also understand the entire process.
