Public Safety Training Center receives fire truck from Hempfield

Supervisors in Hempfield Township have donated a fire truck to the Westmoreland County Community College Public Safety Training Center.
The 1978 snorkel truck served the township out of the Hempfield #2 Volunteer Fire Station for nearly 40 years. The vehicle has an 85-foot articulating boom with a platform for firemen and a 300-gallon tank. The snorkel vehicle was refurbished in 2002.
“The Board of Supervisors is happy the truck will receive a second life," said Hempfield Township Supervisor Board Chairman Doug Weimer. "We are pleased that it will be used as an educational tool in Westmoreland County for the training of all our emergency service volunteers for many years to come."
With the addition of the truck, the PSTC will be able to run two classes simultaneously and will award driver, operator and aerial firefighter certifications.
