Swank graduated from Westmoreland in 1997 with an associate degree in criminal justice and has been working in law enforcement ever since.
In presenting him with the award, Westmoreland President Tuesday Stanley said, “He has reached the level of detective sergeant all while continuing his education, teaching others and being of great service to his community.”
Swank holds a bachelor’s degree in Administration of Justice from the University of Pittsburgh, a master’s degree in Law and Public Policy from California University of Pennsylvania and is currently working on his doctorate in Criminal Justice: Organizational Management, which he anticipates completing this fall.
“We are proud to recognize John as the Distinguished Alumnus for 2017 and to count him as one of our valued adjunct faculty members who has taught Westmoreland students since 2009,” Stanley said.
Swank displays his passion for law enforcement, criminal justice and human services throughout the community by frequently speaking at area high schools about the criminal justice profession, career opportunities and drug and alcohol related issues.
