Casino Dealer School

 

BlackjackWestmoreland’s dealer training is approved by the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB).

During your training you will learn how to deal Blackjack and other banked card games. You will also have the opportunity to learn how to deal additional games.

Upon successful completion, you will earn a Westmoreland Continuing Education certificate and will be eligible to audition as a dealer at any casino in Pennsylvania.

How Do I Get Started?

You begin by signing up for an information session.  At the information session, you will learn about careers in the gaming industry and the skills needed to be a successful dealer, along with the requirements to obtain a gaming license in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

Attendance at an information session is required. You must sign up in advance to attend a session. Walk-ins will not be permitted to attend due to social distancing guidelines. Please use the link at the bottom of the page to sign up.

What Courses Will I Need to Complete?

  • Blackjack and other banked card games:
    • Class is five (5) weeks long - 20 hours/week; 4 hours/day
    • Classes will be held Monday through Friday with varied shifts to accommodate schedules
    • You must successfully complete Blackjack to progress to other games
  • Carnival Games (Criss Cross Poker, Spanish 21, Three Card Poker, Ultimate Texas Hold’em, Mississippi Stud, Let it Ride):
    • Class is two (2) weeks long - 20 hours/week; 4 hours/day
    • Classes will be held Monday through Friday with varied shifts to accommodate schedules
  • Additional games will be offered. Each casino has minimum game requirements.

When Will Classes Begin?

Classes are scheduled to begin August 17.  

Where Will Classes be Held?

Classes will be held at Westmoreland Mall, US Route 30, Greensburg, in a mock casino.

What is Common Criteria to be a Dealer?

  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Must be able to acquire and maintain a valid license by the PA Gaming Control Board, which includes a background check
  • Pass a pre-employment drug test
  • Must have basic math skills to calculate without assistance, manual dexterity, color perception, and the ability to stand for long periods of time
  • Flexibility to work weekends and holidays
  • Be trained in a minimum number of games (varies by casino)
  • Successfully pass an audition
  • Be able to work in an environment with exposure to alcohol, cigarette and cigar smoke, bright lights and loud noises
